This property is a working farm, and has been for four generations, with the fifth showing a lot of interest.
The house here was built by Victor and Percival Mathews (father and son) in the late 50's out of local stone and limecrete. Later additions, made with "hollostone" blocks, were the garage, shower room garden walls, the laundry and the toilet.
When the house was built, the Eyre Highway was just a dirt road with perhaps only half a dozen vehicles a day passing by. It was considered convenient to be living so close for groceries to be delivered with the mail and catching the school bus. Over the years travellers stopped for repairs, to use the "party line" phone, or for fuel and assistance.
The owners say:
- Find a parking spot under a tree, in a shed or nearby . . . there's plenty of flat ground.
- There's a dump point behind the 3 car garage
- Check the information board in the garage.
- Relax . . . Enjoy!
