Kessler Summit
One of the finest hikes in the Wasatch!
I returned to Kessler Peak on 7-1-17 to check on
Citadel Two,
only to discover that it is missing as well as most of the tree it was under.
So...new cache!
The original, placed 10(!) years ago had a Terrain rating of 4 stars. This
new one gets an additional 1/2, purely for inflationary reasons of course!
Man that trail is steep!
The summit of Kessler Peak
is 10,400 feet and it is situated between Mineral Fork and Cardiff Fork in
Big Cottonwood Canyon. Perhaps the easiest ascent is via Cardiff Fork.
For this approach, hike up the Cardiff road and turn right at the trail at N 40
38.018 W 111 39.318. Waypoints for the road approach to the turnoff,
and the turnoff ("Kessler Trailhead") are included.
The cache is at the summit. The hint should make for a quick find.
Enjoy the hike and be careful!
