Geocache Description:

Welcome to Bukit Batu Putih, from where you can enjoy an impressive view over Monkey Bay.

Type of EarthCache: Mineralogy.

Brief General Geology of Tanjung Tuan

The entire Tanjung Tuan site is underlain mainly by metamorphic rocks believed to be Ordovician to Silurian age (488-416 million years) consisting of schist, phyllite, slate and quartzite. The area is distinctively featured by the occurrence of a quartz ridge of Triassic age (251-200 million years) that cuts across the cape in the northwest-southeast direction.

The quartz crystals that make up the ridge are resilient and hard enough to withstand considerable weathering and erosion. The presence of this ridge, which is about 1.4 kilometres in length and 150-280 metres in width, is important as it acts as a natural wave barrier against beach-erosion.

Finding the answers to an EarthCache can often be challenging, and many people tend to shy away from these caches because of this. However, it is my opinion that geocaching is also meant to be a fun family experience that simply aims to introduce interesting and unique locations such as this one. Flexibility on logging requirements, however, can only be applied if it can be established that you have actually taken the time to visit the site. For this reason, a proper log describing your adventure accompanied by a good number of photos would be much appreciated.

ATTENTION

If you plan to proceed from Bukit Batu Putih to the Monkey Bay cache via the beach:
Access to the beach at Monkey Bay might be severely limited during high-tide!
Do not get caught out, verify tide times at the Port Dickson area here or here.

Please do not wade or swim here, the currents are very dangerous!
