This cache is placed with the permission of the management of Long & McQuade on whose property it is located. The shipping staff who work nearby are aware of the cache. The parking lot is for customers of Long & McQuade; there is limited free street parking nearby.
100 years before this cache was placed, this location was in the middle of the eastern half of False Creek, which used to extend as far as Clark Drive. In 1917, the portion of the creek between Main Street and Clark Drive was filled and drained in order to build the nearby rail yards and Pacific Central Station. Had you been at these coordinates before then, you would have needed a canoe. The development in the immediate area, (the music store, the costume/novelty store, colleges, and shops and restaurants) are all rather recent largely having popped up in the last couple decades. Potential plans to relocate the downtown hospital nearby are likely to further change the face of the locale radically in the near future.
Congratulations layzee_bones on being FTF!
