This cache is one of several placed in Herculaneum to celebrate the Great American Eclipse (GAE), August 21, 2017. Not since 1442 has a Total Solar Eclipse occurred in this part of Missouri. In fact, it has been 148 years since a Total Solar Eclipse has occurred anywhere in Missouri. And the next Total Solar Eclipse will not occur in this part of Missouri until 2505! I doubt anyone alive today will be around to see the next one.

In 1934-35, laborers working under the Works Progress Administration (WPA) constructed the football stadium and track facility that has remained a vital part of the Herculaneum/Dunklin R-5 School District. Included in this construction was the present day stone seating area at the stadium facility and a retaining wall on Mott Street, opposite the south end of the stadium. The retaining walls on Mott Street and at the southern end of the football field have been covered by more recent concrete walls. The stone seating is still used by the home team fans.
