Geocache Description:

We paddle here by kayak and canoe. If you come in winter, walk in from the Conservation Area, and be sure that the creek is frozen solid ! Keep in mind the Otonabee River does not freeze, only the creek does.

Please note : The Geocaching Maps are incorrect here. Please use Google if you need to check out the creek by satellite.

Squirrel's Creek seems to begin somewhere south of Millbrook and runs into the Otonabee River. It is lovely in April, May, October, and November. It's not as nice in July and August, or in droughts, because it gets swampy, shallow, and full of weeds. It's not as bad as the Non Qu'on, though ! If you come in the summertime, stick to the middle and look for open water for an easier paddle. It is possible to paddle all the way to the bridge on the corner of Wallace Point Road and the 4th Line. There is a tiny parking spot for a quick put-in or take-out there.

I like to put in at this boat launch  at GC1226K  and just paddle up the creek as far as I can and then back again.  N 44° 11.077 W 078° 19.503

In November the creek might start to freeze. In the coldest part of winter, you can walk on the creek and have snowball fights in the middle of the creek, like we did.

I've seen bluebirds in May, had an osprey fly right overtop and look down at me, and we were swarmed by harmless lovely damselflies in July. The Great Blue Herons love to hang out in here, and the huge carp might put on a show for you, splashing about and jumping out of the water. The frogs are noisy. It's another world in there. Enjoy !
