Carrowkeel Schoolhouse steeped in history found in the National Archives, this preserved building goes back to 1821 when it was built and had an extension added in 1832 due to the volume of schoolchildren at that time, the surviving structure is the said extension .Back then this school was both Catholic And Church of Ireland and the teachers were Mr & Mrs BLake of Menlo Castle in Galway ( this Castle ruins on the shore of the river Corrib has its own Geocache) As there was no other school adjacent to this area no nearer than Cong this school was extremely crowded hence the extension in 1832 by the Kildare Society, Of more significance to me there was a thatched cottage adjoining this structure and this is where i was born. The cache is a camo left of door and right of window, You can incorporate this on your way to the SeanBothair Old Road Cache
Its quite alright to cross the chain in front of this building .I am the owner ,
