Millfields Park #2: Boundary! Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

SawaSawa: With all the DNFs - although mostly from newbies, I have decided to archive the cache.
It may well still be there - possibly pushed in too far or replaced under the wrong log - so it could still be found and logged.

Thanks for all your logs!

Geocache Description:

Millfields Park #2: Boundary!

The cache is hidden at ground level near the north-east corner of the Millfields Park cricket pitch - just south of the main park area - location of GC74BRM: Millfields Park #1: Multi. The area is close to the main Lea Bridge Road with its many passing muggles, so take care when you are carrying out your caching activities and employ suitable stealth measures to minimise any unwanted interest in these. The cache location is a convenient spot to sit, rest and plan your movements . . .

Some History (Part 2)

. . . Various sports facilities were proposed over the years, such as a gymnasium, refreshment kiosk and paddling pool for North Millfields in 1937/38, and dressing room accommodation and tennis courts and putting green in the 1930s in South Millfields. During WWII crops were grown here.

There were band performances on South Millfields in 1899 and a covered bandstand was constructed between 1904 and 1908. At this time, the London County Council (LCC) provided the bandstand and funding for music to be played in its parks, gardens, and commons. The bandstand lasted until the Second World War.

After the War the area was used for a number of activities including film shows. The chimneys in the picture belong to the Carbonic Acid Works that was on the corner of Chatsworth Road and Lea Bridge Road. Prefabs were built on South Millfields as a quick solution to the housing crisis caused by both bomb damage and a general need to clear away the nineteenth-century slums of the East End. Although originally intended to last for just ten years, they remained from 1946 to 1965 . . . (for more history go to page 18 of the Millfields Management Plan)
