"A Horse with No Name" was recorded by the band America in 1971 and released on their self titled debut album.Originally the album was released in Europe without this chart topper. While searching for a song that would be popular in the US and Europe,"A Horse with No Name"(originally called "Desert Song") was written while staying at the home studio of Arthur Brown in Puddletown,Dorset,England. The first two demos were recorded there. The recording was intended to capture the feel of a hot dry desert depicted in a Salvador Dali painting, and the strange horse that had ridden out of M.C.Escher picture.Writer Dewey Bunnell also recalled memories of childhood travels to Arizona and and New Mexico deserts.
