Geocache Description:

Rainslow Scrins is a scheduled ancient monument, an ancient lead-mining area.

The cache is placed close to a seat which overlooks the area and has a spectacular view. There is also now an information board that is well worth a read.

Photos of the area are welcome but please do not post spoilers in logs or spoiler photos. Thanks.

The nearby Information board gives a lot of info on the area so I'm not going to repeat it all but from here you can see the nearby trig point, a disused mineshaft (there are several nearby), a buddle dam (a flat topped mound where lead ore was washed) and on a clear day as far as the Kinder Plateau 19 miles away. A number of other distant points are listed on the info board. If the weather is good, it is well worth bringing binoculars.

I recently parked my work van here while on a lunch break and watched several buzzards overhead, perhaps hoping I'd share my sandwiches. They'd have been disappointed. wink

There's a small parking spot nearby. I hope you enjoy the location

Special thanks to Chris Bray, Visitor Experience Development Manager of Peak District National Park Authority, for permission to place the geocache.
