Der Cache lädt zu einem Haustürspaziergang durch den denkmalgeschützten Stadtteil Brandenburger Vorstadt ein, bei dem es sich allerdings lohnt, auch auf mehr als auf Türen zu achten.

This cache invites you to enjoy a walk through the district Brandenburger Vorstadt with focus on the variety of beautiful doors of the historical town houses. But you are welcome to discover and enjoy more than that.

Potsdam ist reich an Sehenswürdigkeiten. Touristen aus aller Welt strömen in Strömen durch die Innenstadt und die vielen Parks.
Ein Stadtteil abseits der Hauptwege ist die Brandenburger Vorstadt. Diese nahm ihren baulichen Ursprung im 18. Jahrhundert, zu Zeiten des Soldatenkönigs Friedrich I. und seines Sohnes Friedrich d. Großen, als diese Platz für die Zimmererkonstruktionen ihrer Schlösser benötigten. Die meisten Häuser, wie sie heute im Stadtteil zu sehen sind, entstanden jedoch erst um die Wende 19./20. Jahrhundert und sind dem Aussehen nach von der Jugendstilbewegung dieser Zeit geprägt und dadurch reich an v. a. floralen und faunischen Ornamenten. Bauherren waren meist Handwerker, welche „ihre“ Häuser selbst entwarfen und bauten, sowie Gewerbetreibende. Von der Zerstörungswut im zweiten Weltkrieg blieb die Brandenburger Vorstadt glücklicherweise weitestgehend unberührt; Dank umfänglicher Modernisierungs- und Sanierungsarbeiten nach der Wiedervereinigung 1989 konnten viele der aufwändig gestalteten Fassaden erhalten werden und machen heute zu einem guten Teil das besondere Flair des Stadtteils aus, der insbesondere bei Familien beliebt ist.

With its many sights Potsdam is a very popular city and loved by tourists from all over the world. One of the districts away from the main routes is the Brandenburger Vorstadt. This district has its origin in the 18th century when “soldiers king” Frederick I and his son Frederick II (the Great) needed an area where the palace carpenters could prepare their constructions. Nevertheless, most of today’s townhouses were not build before the 19th/20th century turn. “Art Nouveau” with its typical floral and faunal ornaments highly influenced this building period. Clients of most of the houses were tradesmen as well as craftsmen who found themselves in self-constructing and self-building function.
Fortunately, WW2 did not destroy this part of the city. After the reunion of Germany in 1989 it finally came to extensive redevelopment measures and the modernization of the old townhouses. Most of the old façades could be reconstructed successfully which is essential for today’s charm of the district.

Folge den Wegpunkten durch die Brandenburger Vorstadt. Finde auf deinem Weg die Türen aus dem Listing (die Türen sind chronologisch gelistet) und löse an jeder Tür die entsprechende Aufgabe. Die Türen können auf beiden Straßenseiten sein! Passe beim Überqueren der Fahrbahn auf. Der Spaziergang dauert ca. 1 Stunde.

Listing und Formel unterscheiden sich geringfügig in der deutschen und englischen Version. Die Finalkoordinaten sind gleich.

Follow the waypoints through the "Brandenburger Vorstadt". On your way watch out for the doors in the listing (the doors are listed chronologically) and solve the challenges. Doors can be on both sides of the road! Pay attention when crossing the street. The walk will take you round about 1hour.

Listing and formula are slightly different in the English and the German version. The final coords are the same.
