Geocache Description:

Welcome to the Frederick Puzzler's Corner

This is a monthly event to encourage puzzle solving in the geocaching community, and all are welcome.

August 1st is World Wide Web Day.  Tim Berners-Lee was looking for an easy way to organize his computer files, and share digital files & documents with his co-workers at the European Laboratory for Particle Physics (CERN) in Geneva, Switzerland in the early 1980’s.  He put this project aside for a while, and picked it back up so that by 1989, he had created the hypertext markup language (HTML), given each destination or page a specific and unique name or URL (Universal Resource Locator), and created a set of rules for the internet known as hypertext transfer protocol, or HTTP, so information could be shared.  This process was used within CERN for a while before it was unleashed on the world in the early 1990’s, and it has since completely transformed our lives, whether welcome or not.

Our favorite game, and all the things we do with it (like puzzles) would not be possible without some form of this “invention”.  Think of all the knowledge at the tips of your fingers!  You can research unfamiliar topics, search ways to decrypt ciphers, locate puzzle solvers, and just about anything else that will help you find an ammo can in the woods.  Thanks to Tim and all those who put this spider web out there for our use!  Oh, and don’t forget - hundreds of years ago, Nostradamus and the Hopi Indians predicted the world would be criss-crossed by giant spider webs one day - think about that one!

And now, for the usual spiel…

This event is open to all cachers, no matter what your statistics say or whether you even like puzzles!  So newbies and addicts, socialites and lone wolves, mark you calendar.

If you've got a puzzle or mystery cache that's currently got you stumped and you'd like to pick some brains, this event is for you!  Zombies are not welcome here though, so please leave your pets at home - we want everyone to leave with the brains they brought, at minimum.

This event has evolved to a think-tank-type gathering, with everyone collaborating on the latest tantalizing quizzler on their radar.  Occasionally there may be a short tutorial on some aspect of puzzle solving, but the learning seems to come from working with one another to solve a teaser.  You don't have to work on puzzles to enjoy this.  However, you'll have plenty of others to commiserate with, or maybe find someone who has already solved a puzzle using a similar technique.  We continue to see successes at each gathering.

For the puzzle junkies, bring your puzzle paraphenalia - cache listings, laptop or tablet (Wi-Fi is available), theories, worksheets, (sp)eye glasses, abacus, scratch paper (don’t forget your writing instrument) - you never know who (or what) will show up, and what kind of help you might encounter.  Maybe you’ve recently cracked a tough one and want to see the wheels spinning while others tackle it - that can be loads of fun!

If you have a topic you'd like to learn more about, or have a specific puzzle you'd like help with, feel free to make note of it in your Will Attend log.
