Lungo il sentiero che porta ai Castelloni di San Marco una cache semplice per riprendere fiato, nascosta vicino ad un piccolo cippo che ricorda le gesta del Battaglione Sette Comuni.

Along the path that leads to Castelloni San Marco a simple cache for taking a breath, hidden near a small patch that remembers the actions of the Sette Comuni Battalions.

Il Battaglione Alpini Sette Comuni



Fondato a Bassano Veneto, attuale Bassano del Grappa, alla fine di novembre del 1915 era costituito da un Comando e due Compagnie individuate nella 145ª e 144ª rientranti nel 6° Reggimento Alpino.
Il Battaglione prese il nome da quella terra che poi difenderà eroicamente a costo di enormi sacrifici e perdite umane.
Si formò grazie al Battaglione "Bassano" e "Val Brenta" che gli fornì ufficiali inferiori ed i graduati di truppa oltre al distretto Militare di Vicenza che reclutò 1.200 alpini classe 1890 dai centri di mobilità zonali. A Caporetto completerà il proprio organico assorbendo la 94ª compagnia dal " Btg. Bassano" per cui in definitiva sarà composto da:
33 ufficiali
1190 tra alpini e graduati
88 tra muli e cavalli

Bloccata l’avanzata della 3° e 11° armata Austro-Ungarica nella famosa Strafexpedition, guidata dall'Arciduca Eugenio, dal 2 giugno 1916 in poi viene ripristinato il fronte, in modo da organizzare la successiva controffensiva. Così tra il 15 e 16 giugno il battaglione Sette Comuni riprese la marcia e, una volta attraversato il Passo Lupo, si porta a Malga Giogomalo, unendosi sotto la direzione del Gruppo Alpini Stringa. Dal Comando Generale arriva l’ordine di prendere la vicina Cima Isidoro. La 144ª compagnia nel frattempo tenta la conquista della cima Castelloni di San Marco, mentre la 94ª e 145ª a quota 1.720 e nel Fontanello tentano di distrarre con azioni di disturbo gli Austriaci. La 144ª arriva sulla sommità e riesce a farsi proprie 5 schwarzlose e due obici Austriaci. Questo ardimento valse l’onore della medaglia d’argento al valor militare per atti degni di menzione per eroismo al Capitano Mannerini, ed ai Sottotenenti Giovanni Cecchini e Cesare Porta. Nel combattimento muoiono purtroppo i decorati al valor militare con la medaglia di bronzo, Tenenti Bassanesi Guido Costa ed Enrico Moranti. Il giorno dopo su slancio del Sottotenente Giovanni Fincato di Enego viene conquistata Cima Isidoro a 1.914 mt. Il Comando però sottovaluta l’importanza dei collegamenti in quei particolari e difficili frangenti, mettendo il battaglione in difficoltà perché isolato. Fortunatamente gli Austriaci non ne approfittarono e stranamente si ritirarono.
Il giorno successivo il Sette Comuni affiancato dal Val Cenischia punta verso cima Campanella e Caldiera a quota 2.218. Arriveranno in questi monti partecipando a quello che verrà successivamente definito il calvario degli Alpini di cui il Sette Comuni sarà protagonista.





Cippo commemorativo



Salendo lungo il sentiero CAI845 che raggiunge i Castelloni di SanMarco si giunge ai piedi di una salita, non molto distante da GZ, ad una piccola biforcazione. Tenendo la destra come indicato dal cartello (vedi figura) si giunge ad un piccolo cippo commemorativo in cui sono ricordati i nomi di alcuni soldati protagonisti dei fatti narrati sopra, che in questi boschi hanno trovato la morte durante la guerra.
Per salire ai Castelloni tornate sui vostri passi e alla biforcazione tenete il sentiero principale (a sinistra).




The Alpine Battalion Sette Comuni



Founded at Bassano Veneto (today called Bassano del Grappa), at the end of November 1915, it was made up of a Command and two companies identified in 145th and 144th, into the 6th Alpine Regiment.
The Battalion took its name from that land that will then heroically defend at the cost of huge sacrifices and human losses.
It was formed thanks to the Battalion "Bassano" and "Val Brenta" which provided it with lower officers and troops in addition to the Military District of Vicenza who recruited 1,200 alpine class 1890 from the zonal mobility centers. In

Blocked the advance of the 3rd and 11th Austro-Hungarian Armed Forces in the famous Strafexpedition, led by Archduke Eugene, from June 2, 1916, the front is restored to organize the next counter-offensive. Thus, between 15 and 16 June, the Seven Communist Battalion resumed the march and moved to Malga Giogomalo, joining under the leadership of the Alpini String Group. From the General Command comes the order to take the nearby Cima Isidoro. Meanwhile, the 144th company attempts to conquer the top of Castelloni San Marco, while the 94th and 145th at 1.720 m and in the Fontanello attempt to distract the Austrians with disturbing actions. The 144th arrives at the top and succeeds in making 5 schwarzlose and two Austrian obiches. The tenants Bassanesi Guido Costa and Enrico Moranti unfortunately died in the fight. The next day, by the impetus of Undercut Giovanni Fincato of Enego, Cima Isidoro is conquered at 1,914 mt. The Command, however, underestimates the importance of the links in those particular situation, placing the battalion in difficulty because it was isolated. Fortunately, the Austrians did not take advantage of it and strangely withdrew.
The following day, the Sette Comuni flanked by the Val Cenischia point to the top Campanella and Caldiera at 2,218. They will arrive in these mountains by taking part in what will then be called the Calvary of the Alpine, of which the Sette Comuni will be the protagonist.

Commemorative Stone


Climbing along the path that reaches the Castelloni of San Marco you reach the foot of a climb, not far from GZ, to a small bifurcation. Holding the right as indicated by the sign (see picture) you come to a small memorial note where are remember the names of some soldiers protagonists of the above-mentioned facts that in these forests have found death during the war.
To climb the Castellons, return to your steps and bifurcation, keep the main path (left).
