This cache is located where one can imagine a herd of fat cattle being corralled for loading onto trucks, headed for the big cattle markets at Ft. Worth or Kansas City.
The meadows and abundant water permitted ranchers to “fatten out” their herd through the spring and summer and then ship them out.
A lot of prime beef has gone through these corrals; just hope it was all enjoyed. About 40 years ago, with the development of nearby Purgatory Ski Area and the Cascade Village condo complex, the lure of dollars for real estate development put an end to the ranching here.
The cache is an easy stop and grab, but take time to enjoy the beautiful views of the San Juan mountains.
