Geocache Description:

LETTERBOX HYBRID - Geocache is not located at the listed coordinates.  Read the description and look at the images below to begin your search for this geocache.

Notorious pirate Captain Holly Hyde, sister of the infamous pirate Mary Hyde, sailed the high seas for many years and amassed many riches along her travels.  She sailed her ship, The Silver Cache, through these here parts many a year ago.  Captain Hyde was so wealthy that she often hid her treasures along her routes so that The Silver Cache was not overloaded and weighed down by all of her riches.  She was clever.  Her maps to the treasure were labeled so that it was not obvious where the treasure was to anyone but her.  With Captain Holly, “X” never marked the spot.

A map has recently been found that is believed to be for a treasure that Holly Hyde left in this area.  Buildings and landmarks have changed, but the overall terrain of the land and water remain the same.

Legend tells us many things about Captain Holly Hyde.

  • The captain often hid her treasure in plain sight, disguising it as something that would simply be overlooked by a random passerby.
  • Holly knew hiding treasures near munchkins was foolish.  No matter how clever her hide might be, munchkins always seemed to destroy it with their tiny hands and careless ways.  Town gathering places were almost as bad.
  • Holly stayed well away from canines, not out of fear but because of terrible allergies.  No pirate wants to sail the seven seas with itchy eyes and a stuffed up nose.
  • Captain Holly loved the blue dragon.  He was beautiful, graceful, and actually a gentle creature as long as he did not feel threatened.  Most importantly, the blue dragon often made his home in shallow waters where he could wade and relax.  Knowing this about the blue dragon kept Holly many a times from sailing her ship into shallow waters where the sandbars would have surely trapped The Silver Cache.
  • Holly told many tales of how when she left this world, she hoped to return as a carefree, exotic bird.  She wished to sail through the sky the same way her ship sailed through the ocean.
  • Holly enjoyed visiting castles.  Kings and princes were captivated by her tales and enamored by her beauty.  However, the shallow royal men only amused her for an evening or two before she quickly grew tired of their superficial appeal and lack of true adventure.  Holly never once found a castle where she wished to make a return visit.

Armed with this knowledge, the ancient map, and the rules of the kingdom, do you dare to hunt for the nearby treasure of Holly Hyde?

UPDATE: March 2024

The mighty giant that once held the treasure "house" has fallen and lies half on land and half in the water. The "house" has crumbled, but its foundation remains. Tucked behind the foundation is now a small container where you can sign your name and show you have visited.
