Geocache Description:

WHERE: 744 Nashville Pike, Gallatin, TN 37066

TIME: 1PM-1:30 PM

Totality of eclipse will be from 1:27-1:30 pm

This will truly be a ONCE IN A LIFETIME EVENT! America will see its first total solar eclipse since 1979. The next one won't happen until April 2024. Middle Tennessee has not experienced a total eclipse since 1478!!!! As far as here in Middle Tennessee, there will not be another (total eclipse) for 549 years!!!

On Aug. 21, 2017, people across the United States will see the sun disappear behind the moon, turning daylight into twilight, causing the temperature drop rapidly and revealing massive streamers of light streaking through the sky around the silhouette of the moon. On that day, America will fall under the path of a total solar eclipse .

The Great American Total Solar Eclipse will darken skies all the way from Oregon to South Carolina, along a stretch of land about 70 miles (113 kilometers) wide. People who descend upon this "path of totality" for the big event are in for an unforgettable experience.

**REMEMBER**

Looking directly at the sun without eye protection can cause serious eye damage or blindness. But there are ways to safely observe the sun. During a partial solar eclipse, people often use pinhole cameras to watch the progress of the moon across the sun's surface (pinhole cameras are easy to make at home). This is an "indirect" way of observing the sun, because the viewer sees only a projection of the sun and the moon.

To view the sun directly (and safely), use "solar-viewing glasses" or "eclipse glasses" or "personal solar filters" (these are all names for the same thing), according to the safety recommendations from NASA. The "lenses" of solar-viewing glasses are made from special-purpose solar filters that are hundreds of thousands of times darker than regular sunglasses,These glasses are so dark that the face of the sun should be the only thing visible through them, Fienberg said. Solar-viewing glasses can be used to view a solar eclipse, or to look for sunspots on the sun's surface.

We are working hard to try to get some viewing glasses to have at the event, But there is no guarantee we will be able to get them,  so please make sure you have appropriate eyewear!!!!

In Tennessee, Gallatin will have the longest viewing length of totality with two minutes and 40 seconds of darkness. There will Be many events in Gallatin throughout the day so please prepare accordingly. There are also LOTS OF CACHES IN THE AREA, including one very near this location, and a power trail within a 10th of a mile!! Southpaw has worked hard to find a great public place (with not too many muggles) to gather as a group and enjoy this caching experience together!! We hope to see everyone there! Please log your will attend!
