Geocache Description:

---The Cache Is Not At The Listed Coordinates---

Carnaby’s Cockatoo Interpretive Walk

The Carnaby’s Cockatoo Interpretive Walk is one of several Eco Trails in Moora. It is 3.4km one way from west to east (2hrs) or you can complete a 7km loop and include a walk through Candy’s Bush Reserve which is known for its special wildflowers.

The Carnaby’s Black-Cockatoo is endemic to south west Western Australia, which means this is the only part of the world they naturally occur. However, they are now endangered as their population has declined over 50 percent in the last 45 years. They no longer breed in around a third of their former breeding sites in the Wheatbelt.

There are a range of reasons for their dramatic decline. Most habitat suitable for breeding and feeding in both the Wheatbelt and Perth has been cleared entirely or fragmented. Many tree hollows are removed or ‘tidied’ from woodland, but it generally takes 100 years for a seedling to grow large enough to create a hollow suitable for nesting.

This site is part of the Wheatbelt Science Trail and GeoTrail, you can find more sites of interest across the region on the map.

The Cache

The cache is a magnetic mint tin hidden at S30 3A.BCD E115 5E.FGH

To find the cache, park at the suggested 'park here' in the waypoints page. Then walk along the carnaby walk to Stage 1 where you will find an information board titled 'Saving the Carnaby's Cockatoo'

Using the following Code (W is the word, L is Letter) you will end up with a series of letters, convert these to numbers using A=1, B=2, C=3...... method (dont count the title of the sign)

A = 11th W, 2nd L

C = 9th W, 7th L

E = 5th W, 2nd L

G =13th W, 1st L

Now walk to Stage 2 where you find a large display board titled 'Carnaby's Black Cockatoo - Life in the wheatbelt'

B = 16th W, 1st L

D = 5th W, 2nd L

F = 3rd W, 5th L

H = 9th W, 1st L

You should now have enough information to find the cache, Goodluck and enjoy.
