Geocache Description:

Welcome to Pious in the Prior, our Arnprior Church Tour. This is the third church tour I have created, and is fairly similar to the nearby Faithful in the Frew. There are an amazing 14 churches (past and present) still standing and (mostly) in use in Arnprior today. The stages can be done in any order, and should all be findable any time of the year.

Each stage asks you to collect a number or numbers. To determine the geocache location you will be adding all of the collected numbers together.

1. St. John Chrysostom Roman Catholic Church

This church is the largest and tallest church in Arnprior, and it is where the tour officially starts. In front of the church, there is a long wheelchair ramp complete with built in lights. How many light panels are there? Take a walk around the outside of the church and look for a black and silver staircase. How many silver steps are there (including the landing)?

2. Grace St Andrew's United Church

This is another old and beautiful church. Look for where the name of the church is written in stone. What year is written there? Also, look for a plaque. What year was the plaque dedicated?

3. Arnprior Methodist Church

This is right next door to St. Andrews. It is now an “education center” for St. Andrew’s, but once upon a time it was a church of its own. What year was it built? And how many signs are there around the building warning of falling ice? (Take note of this if caching in the winter and early spring seasons!)

4. Arnprior Seventh Day Adventist Church

This building was once the Arnprior Seventh Day Adventist Church. In recent years, it shared the space with River of Life Christian Fellowship. Now neither church is located here, and I believe this space has been converted to apartments. What is this building referred to as now? (Two words, on the front of the building, easily read from sidewalk). Take the DR of this.

5. Emmanuel Anglican Church

This is a well kept up church in a corner of town, complete with a church hall. What year was that hall built?

6. Elgin Street Baptist Church

This is an interesting older church in town, on one of the main streets. Count how many bricks are in the church (no, that was a joke). Looking at the front door, find a 4 digit number. From the small parking lot behind the church, you will see some basement windows. You will also see where there used to be windows, but these have been filled in. How many filled in windows are there?

7. River Stone Christian Fellowship

This church used to be simply called “The Rock Church”. It is entertaining to use the rewind feature on Google Street View to see the different signs this space has had. Stand in the entrance of the main door (left of the two blue windows). On your right there is a chain in the wall. A number of the lower links are rusted, while the top links look fairly silver. How many rusted links are there?

8. St. Andrews Presbyterian Church

Welcome to another St. Andrew’s church in Arnprior! This is another fine brick church. There is a stone above the entrance with a year. What year is it? On what day in November was the cornerstone laid?

9. Calvary Baptist Church

Welcome to another quaint church in the residential part of town. How many individual rectangular windows (long and tall and not squarelike) are there on the northwest (facing Landrigan) and southeast sides (these are the long sides of the church). Don’t count any windows on the southwest (facing Edey) or northeast side. Do not count any windows in doors. Be sure to spot two sneaky northwest and southeast windows near the hydro box too! The correct number of windows is evenly divisible by 3.

10. Arnprior Wesleyan Church Gateway Church

Originally this congregation was located at 192 Harrington Street. These coordinates are something of an unusual sight. The elementary school closed several years ago, and the former school is occupied by several agencies including a church. The funny thing is, it is still labeled as a school. Find the main entrance (you’ll know it when you see it). UPDATE NOVEMBER 2017: This church has now rebranded itself and called itself Gateway. How many words are on the main entrance sign? (count them all. Add 3, because the old sign was wordier.)

11. St. John's Lutheran Church

Here is another traditional brick church. It must be pretty old, as you are about to learn. Record the three years from two cornerstones on the church.

12. First Baptist Church

Brick sure was a popular construction choice for so many churches. At this church, count how many doors there are at this church (double doors have two doors). All can be seen from the sidewalk, but one is harder to see at that angle. Of course, do not count the separate building (their office).

13. Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses

The construction here is quite a bit different from many others- no brown bricks! You will see the meeting schedule posted. How many minutes of meetings per week are there?

14. Glad Tidings Pentecostal Church

This is another large church, with quite a large parking lot. Take a walk around the perimeter of the church. You will see an animal on the roof. What is it? (DR)

Geocache Location:

As we wrote above, add all of your numbers together. The sum should be an even number. Divide this sum by 1000. Add the resulting number to the North and West minutes of these dummy coordinates for the location of the geocache: n 45 07.756 w 076 04.247. If you did everything correctly, this should be in Arnprior near a street and well away from a private dwelling.

Photos with the cache are ok, but any photos that give away too much of the surroundings will be deleted.
