La baie de Socoa

Ce théâtre naturel comporte deux éperons: au nord la falaise de Sainte-Barbe haute de 50 m et, au sud , le roche des Criquas (20 m) sur lequel a été érigé le fort de Socoa. La colline de Sainte-Barbe se caractérise par un empilement de couches horizontales appelé "pile d'asiettes", alors que, dans les falaises de Socoa, le flysch est plissé verticalement. Cette particularité est, pour les géologues, un véritable cas d'école.

Entre ces deux éperons s'étend la baie de Socoa de forme semi-circulaire, typique de la côte Basque.

 Bay of Socoa 

This natural theater has two spurs: to the north the cliff of Sainte-Barbe 50 m high and, to the south, the rock of Criquas (20 m) on which the fort of Socoa was erected.
The hill of Sainte-Barbe is characterized by a stack of horizontal layers called "stack of asiettes", while in the cliffs of Socoa, the flysch is folded vertically. This peculiarity is, for geologists, a real case of school.

Between these two spurs lies the bay of Socoa of semi-circular form, typical of the Basque coast.
