Pointy Mountain Traditional Cache
Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions
in our disclaimer.
A small box cache (see picture) on a pointy mountain in public lands north of the White Sands missile range. Elevation 5700 feet, bring binoculars for a nice view!
Bring small items to trade because of the small box, the same size as Coordinates Cache and Solstice.
This cache is best accessed from Hwy 380 and NM 525, then take the dirt road turn off here: N33.51.116 W106.40.254. The roads to the cache site are dirt but passable with any car. Second dirt turnoff here: N33.51.512 W106.41.685, takes you to an area closer to the mountain to park, take this spur to the road end for the closest parking, don't take it if you want to hike farther!
The mountain itself is fairly steep, but can be easily made by switchbacking to the top, there's no trail, but the footing is fairly good. The last 50 feet you may need to use your hands. The elevation change is 500 feet from the parking spot.
The box is hidden in a small crevice near the summit. Use the cheat for more detail. There's a benchmark about 20 feet east of the cache for you benchmark baggers.
When you find the box, be gentle in opening it, the hinges have a propensity to pop out of you open the box quickly and this ruins the ability to close it! Thanks!
Original Contents: GPS batteries, Light from Titan 2 launch console from Vandenberg AFB CA, Rock from Sedona, mini Tabasco bottle, ancient pop top, postage stamps, brass ball, video arcade token, chem lite, star wars token, wire tie, logbook and pencil.
Good luck! Helodriver
