Salvador Guillermo Allende Gossens (IPA: [salbaˈðoɾ ɡiˈʝeɾmo aˈʝende ˈɣosens]; Valparaíso, 26 giugno 1908 – Santiago del Cile, 11 settembre 1973) è stato un politico cileno, primo Presidente marxistademocraticamente eletto nelle Americhe e, secondo alcuni, al mondo.
Allende venne eletto il 4 settembre 1970 e fu Presidente del Cile dal 3 novembre 1970 fino alla destituzione violenta a seguito del golpe militare appoggiato dagli Stati Uniti, avvenuta l'11 settembre 1973, giorno della sua morte.
Laureatosi in medicina all'Universidad de Chile, ne fu allontanato e venne inquisito per motivi politici alla fine degli studi. Nel 1933 partecipò alla fondazione del Partito Socialista del Cile. Successivamente eletto deputato del Parlamento cileno nel 1937; quindi nel 1943 venne scelto come segretario dei socialisti e ricoprì la carica di Ministro della Sanità e delle Politiche Sociali; infine nel 1945 divenne senatore e nel 1966 Presidente del Senato. Nel 1970 ottenne la vittoria elettorale, come candidato dichiaratamente marxista, oltre che socialista democratico, alla carica di Presidente della Repubblica del Cile, quindi presiedette un governo di coalizione tra socialisti, comunisti, radicali e cattolici di sinistra.
L'11 settembre 1973, un golpe organizzato dall'esercito cileno causò la sua morte in circostanze drammatiche - probabilmente suicida - nel palazzo presidenziale a Santiago del Cile, portando al governo il generaleAugusto Pinochet che instaurò una dittatura militare. I suoi sostenitori si riferiscono a lui come Compañero Presidente ("Compagno Presidente") e alcuni lo annoverano tra i pochi rivoluzionari non violenti.

Salvador Guillermo Allende Gossens (Valbaraíso, June 26, 1908 - Santiago de Chile, September 11, 1973) was a Chilean politician, the first Marxist Democratically elected president in the Americas and, according to some, the world.
Allende was elected on 4 September 1970 and was President of Chile since November 3, 1970 until his resignation after the military coup supported by the United States on September 11, 1973, the day of his death.
Graduated in medicine at the University of Chile, she was dismissed and was investigated for political reasons at the end of her studies. In 1933 he participated in the foundation of the Socialist Party of Chile. He was later elected Chilean Parliamentarian in 1937; Then in 1943 was elected as secretary of the Socialists and served as Minister of Health and Social Policies; Finally in 1945 he became Senator and in 1966 President of the Senate. In 1970 he won the electoral victory as an officially Marxist nominee, as well as a Democratic Socialist, with the office of President of the Republic of Chile, and then presided over a coalition government between leftist socialists, communists, radicals and Catholics.
On September 11, 1973, a coup organized by the Chilean army caused its death in dramatic circumstances - probably suicidal - in the presidential palace in Santiago de Chile, leading General Augusto Pinochet to the government establishing a military dictatorship. His supporters refer to him as Compañero President ("Compagno President") and some of them are among the few nonviolent revolutionaries.
