!!Please be respectful and do not park at the old church which is now a private residence. Please only park in the cemetery!! Also please only cache during daylight hours. In 2007, Faith church (formerly Franklin) was in the beginning stages of moving to a new location across from Crestview High School. There were no caches here in this cemetery where I used to play as a child, so I wanted to make this a first hide.
Welcome to Franklin Cemetery. The old church in front of the cemetery is now a private residence and the owner has made it very clear that no one should be parking in their parking area. Please only park in/along the cemetery drive. This cache is a typical cache but this location has some special memories. Many church friends and former neighbors have been buried in this cemetery. Please be respectful and only cache during daylight hours. The church that sits in front of this cemetery was once Franklin Church. It was established in 1836 at a different location and then some years later was moved to this location. It remained here but the congregation of Pavonia Church (at the south end of Robinson Road) merged with Franklin church to better serve the community around 2000 and became Faith UMC. The church congregation grew bigger than the walls of the old Franklin Church Building could allow and plans were laid around 2007 for a new bigger building in hopes of serving the community even more. I attended this church when it was Franklin from infancy until adulthood and the greatest part of this building is the stained glass windows. Please do not approach the building but take a look, from a distance, at these windows if you are able. They are beautiful and often rare to have so many in a such a small country church. There is an unkown death date on a few headstones, but the oldest headstone I could find was that of Amanda Downs Ferguson with a death date of 1826 (and that was before the church was established!). I hope you enjoy this cemetery cache!
