På den andre siden av den engelsk kanal

Etter Claude Chappe sin suksess med optisk telegraf (GC795GP) begynte flere nasjoner å utvikle sine versjoner. I England utviklet Lord Geoge Murray et rammeverk av tre med seks lukkere. Disse lukkerne kunne stå i to forskjellig pososjoner - vannrett og loddrett. Dette systemet ble tatt i bruk i 1795. England fryktet en fransk invasjon og det ble bygget et nettverk av stasjoner melllom London og den Engelske kanal. En melding fra en stasjon ved kanalen kunne nå London på 60 sekunder. Murray sitt system ble brukt gjennom napoleonskrigene og frem til 1816.

I utgangspunktet lingner på Murray sin kode på braille eller blindeskrift som ble utviklet av Louis Braille i 1824.

On the other side of the English Channel

After Claude Chappe's success with the optical telegraph (GC795GP), several nations began to develop their versions. In England, Lord Geoge Murray developed a framework of wood with six shutters. These could be set in two different positions - horizontal and vertical. This system was deployed in 1795. England feared a French invasion and a network of stations between London and the English Channel was built. A message from a station by the channel could reach London in 60 seconds. Murray's system was used throughout the Napoleonic War and until 1816.

Basically, Murray's code have some similarities with Braille, which was developed by Louis Braille in 1824
