Geocache Description:

Hackberry trees (Celtis occidentalis) are often found in association with oaks and hickories, bottomlands and floodplains. Its small, purple berries can be a sweet and nutritious snack for humans and wildlife alike. These berries are a favorite snack of birds on their northward migration, spreading the seeds up to Point Pelee and other localities on Lake Erie; and making it a favorite of bird lovers. The hackberry’s bark is one of the most interesting of native Carolinian trees, and looks corky, like a landscape model in 3D.
While you're in the area, why not check out the many other labelled trees?
