Selfies with Sassy Traditional Cache

In the heart of the Shawnee Forest you'll find a 2600 pound photo opportunity, a mythical creature who points the way to one of the most popular hikes in the Shawnee National Forest. 

Her name is Sassy and she's been a star from the moment she started her travels to the Shawnee National Forest. Sassy resides in the Shawnee because nearby Shawnee Forest Cabin owners Doug & Carrie DeVore wanted to bring a fun roadside attraction to the area. When the DeVore's set out to bring Sassy to the area the epic adventures began and Sassy became quite popular. She even has her own facebook page now. When you finish with this geocache and your photos with Sassy be sure to check out Camel Rock at Garden of the Gods. It has a starring role on the Illinois state quarter! Other attractions to the area include canoeing, kayaking or zip-lining. Additionally, there are a number of wineries to tour in the area. After you visit Sassy consider heading on along Hwy 146 to visit the Historic town of Golconda, IL where a number of other geocaches are located. After your caching you can visit The Historic Riverview Mansion's Levee Lounge for a quick bite to eat and a beverage.
