Joseph Martin

Joseph Martin,(September 24, 1852 – March 2, 1923) was a lawyer and politician in Manitoba, British Columbia and the United Kingdom often referred to as "Fighting Joe".
Ontario-born Martin started his career as a telegraph operator, teacher and school principal, before becoming a lawyer in Winnipeg. He served in the Manitoba legislature from 1883 to 1892, then made the leap to Federal politics in 1893 before being defeated three years later.
Martin moved to Vancouver to practice law, and was elected to the BC Legislature in 1898 during tumultuous political times, serving as Attorney General between 1898 and 1900, before being defeated in 1903.
After this, Martin divided his time between Vancouver (where he founded two newspapers and ran for mayor) and England, where he was elected to the British Parliament from 1910 to 1918.
