Field Day is the largest amateur radio event in North America. Held on the last full weekend of June each year, it’s part emergency response exercise, part public relations effort, part contest, part great food, and all fun.
Thousands of hams from all over the United States and Canada, and often other nations, leave their homes and other usual radio operating locations to set up temporary stations, using power sources other than the local utility, such as portable generators or solar panels. Then, they spend the next 24 hours straight making as many contacts with other stations as they can. Many set up their sites in a public area, so the general public can see what we’re doing and, hopefully, some will check it out and become interested in amateur radio.
For the last several years, Heather Farm Park has been the location of a Field Day site. This cache is to commemorate Field Day and the Park’s participation in this great event.
