The AG
The Attorney General (AG) of British Columbia is responsible for ensuring that public administration is conducted according to the law and as such, he or she is the chief advisor of law to the government, in addition to overseeing the court system and Sheriff Service.The AG is a member of the provincial cabinet, typically a Member of Legislative Assembly who is chosen by the premier and formally appointed by the Lieutenant-Governor of British Columbia. William John Bowser
New Brunswick-born William John Bowser (December 8, 1862 – July 25, 1936) moved to Vancouver in 1891 to practice law, and was elected to the legislature in 1903.
Bowser served as AG in Sir Richard McBride's cabinet from 1907 to 1915, when he succeeded McBride as premier, but his tenure as premier was short-lived, when he lost the election in 1916. He stayed on as leader of the opposition until he lost his seat in 1924. Bowser attempted a comeback in 1933, but died during the election campaign,
A river, a lake and the small community of Bowser on Vancouver Island are named for him.
