Access to Midmar Game Reserve, Thurlow is on the R617 - on the road out towards Mpophomeni heading to Underberg. The drive to the GZ through the reserve is quite rutted, the road is not well maintained. The road is passable with careful driving. The GZ is about 8km from the gate. Entrance to reserve may require a visit to the Main Office on the R103. A nominal fee is charged for access to the reserve
The Thurlow Reserve is a lovely spot containing a number of species of plains game - zebra, black wildebeest, hartebeest and blesbok. Visitors may also be lucky to spot secretary birds and blue cranes.
This is on our favorite cycle route - from home in Howick
