This geocache is placed just off the paved pathway leading over Mt Albert. This pathway is a small part of the Wellington Town Belt. It provides the southern suburbs (Island Bay mostly) with a track leading along the ridgelines of hills towards Mt Victoria and the city. This is an easy track accessible by both bike and foot. If you continue walking up the track to the summit on a clear day, you will be greeted with some nice views of Island Bay, Lyall Bay, the airport, Cook Strait, South Island and the city. You can also find some old WWII bunkers/observation posts towards the top. Some downhill mountain biking/BMX tracks heading downhill are located near the carpark just off Mt Albert Road.
The best access to this cache is by foot. Parking is available close by, just off Mt Albert Road. Be careful as you approach the cache as there are a few pointy vines (blackberry?) around the ground. The cache is a small red container that I have very poorly attempted to camo black. It contains room for very small trade items only. It is important to ensure the lid is closed properly to prevent water getting in. You must sign the logbook for each individual cacher or your log may be deleted. BYOP.
