FSC-2017 Bringhurst Woods

Cache Details:
The park is open dawn to dusk.

There is a short hike on the paved Greenway and then a short bushwack mostly on an undefined trail.

The cache is a small Lock-n-Lock.

Description:
Bringhurst Woods is a county park located between Bellevue State Park and the county owned Rockwood Park. The park is most defined by a section of the Delaware Greenway and by the Shellpot Creek. The Greenway winds from the Brandywine River nearly to the Delaware River and provides a green exercise and transportation link for local bikers, walkers and runners. Shellpot Creek meanders through Northern Wilmington parks and neighborhoods for a mere 6 miles. This portion is strewn with boulders primarily of Bringhurst gabbro, a course grained rock with some crystals.

The Bringhurst name comes from one of only two families to live at Rockford Mansion and the surrounding land. Edward, Anna and their four children, Bessie, Mary, Edith and Edward III lived in Rockwood Mansion from 1892 to 1965.
