Geocache Description:

48 State Cache Dash Introduction (GC79X8F)

This series of caches is intended to be a simulation of my 48 state trip, but on a much smaller scale, more or less making a counter-clockwise circuit of Dane county. If done in one trip, it will take several hours, depending on how long each stop is, and will cover somewhere in the neighborhood of 160 miles.

A few notes…

-Look for the state stickers on the beacons.
-They are all park and grabs.
-Most are winter friendly, some are not.
-Almost all caches are on road signs, a few guard rails.
-Look for magnetic key holders, pill bottles, or homemade pvc containers.
-All log times in the trip descriptions are Central Time.
-If using a cell phone for searching, there are some areas where the signal may be weak or lost altogether.
-If traveled in the intended order, most of the caches will be on the right side of the road, others might need a quick u turn.

State #41 - ME

It may be one just across the state border again, but it was here that I was to grab a cache and make my way West for the remainder of the state caches and ultimately home.

I stole this from the cache description page…” To quote a previous log: "You completely nailed this one! Yes, this is what geocaching is all about! Finding those interesting places that nobody would ever otherwise see! Combine that with an ammo can in the woods, even better." Ammo can indeed. As cool as those are, the subject of this placement was more interesting for me. There is a grave site in the middle of the on ramp to the turnpike. Weird. The interior of the on ramp is all pretty much wooded, so the site is well hidden, but it is still unusual nonetheless. No matter how you look at it, that’s a key reason cachers go to all these strange places. To see something new. I always enjoy seeing new things and this certainly fit the bill. Read more on the cache description page if you like. I have some more caches to go after. 7-to-go!

Departure Time – 1:42 pm
