Geocache Description:

The cache is dedicated to 1241 one of the most destructive battle (for Hungarian Kingdom) at Sajo River, near Muhi village. Where Mongol hordes led by Batu Khan clashed with Hungarian Army led by Bela IV the King of Hungary .

Unfortunately Mongols quite easily defeated Hungarians and continued the plundering the county and technically obliterated the whole population of lowland plains.

The Medieval Hungarian state suffered one of its most serious defeats at the Battle of Muhi in 1241. Batu Khan's army delivered an annihilating attack on the troops of Béla IV. The Hungarian king fled to Trogir and returned to rebuild the country after the Mongols left. Hungarians remember this short, but devastating period as the "Passing of the Tatars".
