Geocache Description:

The Original Mad River Gorge Cache

The first cache placed at the Mad River Gorge on July 27, 2017 shortly after the opening of the Gorge. This cache is located at the trail head of the Mad River Gorge. We did have a larger ammocan placed in the park a well; unfortunately the Mad likes to get mad and I think it may have been swept away by flooding in the spring, or possibly thrown out during clean up. If you were to follow the Mad River upstream about 2 miles you would see the home where I spent my childhood. Many of my childhood days were spent on the banks of the river, and in it. We fished, canoed, inter tubed, swam, trestle jumped, caught crawdaddys, and just skipped rocks along the river many days. We climbed and played on these rocks long before it was ever a park. If you do decide to play in the river just remember it’s called the Mad River for a reason. There are A LOT of strong currents in the river, and A LOT of places that are deeper than it seems. Even some of the strongest swimmers get caught up in her, and living right next to her my whole life there is always a river rescue or two each year - so don’t make that you. She also floods and floods fast, so if you’re down in the gorge be careful, and of course watch for flooding. If you choose to climb the gorge best of luck, and have fun! I’ve nevee used rock climbing equipment, but we’ve always climbed up parts of the gorge without any! Thanks for finding the cache, and I hope you enjoy the gorge.
