Geocache Description:

If you visit a particular Christmas-themed shop in the town of North Pole, Alaska; either in person or on the Internet; you can purchase for your young one an apparently legal deed to one square inch of North Pole land; making the deed holder a part-owner of Santa’s domain, at least in their own mind.

I was looking over the circles* after the placement of two other recent caches in Heather Farm Park, with the map zoomed out to make the entire Park visible. I was amazed to notice this little speck that wasn’t circle-colored. It sure looked like it was about one square inch of Heather Farm land, reminding me of the North Pole gift gimmick.

It’s really more than a square inch, of course. Google Earth tells me that the space between the circles is actually a little over 12,000 square feet; or roughly two good-sized suburban residential house lots. But well over half of that space is taken by a stretch of San Carlos Drive and its bordering sidewalks. That leaves an approximate trapezoid of roughly 4500 square feet; which does seem like a square inch, compared to the entire Park. And it’s in a well-traveled area consisting of flat open field, with about three small trees. Not much to work with when hiding a cache invisible to muggles.

But cachers are persistent and a new one is in place. As of the publish date, there are 16 caches either in the Park or close enough to influence cache placement. Did you think Heather Farm was saturated before? Is it saturated now?

[* All new caches are required to be at least 0.1 miles (528 feet) away from any other cache. There are a number of apps and macros that will plot circles around selected cache locations to show that minimum distance on a map.]
