The is a replacement for the original "Indigenous Biodiversity On The Rise" cache by PWelly. Visit South Surrey Park to appreciate the work done by the local Friends Group and City of Boroondara. Over the past 15 years this park has been revegetated as part of the biodiversity corridor along Back Creek. Willows and weedy undergrowth were once the go. Now the creek side of the path looks great with a diversity of native grasses, shrubs and trees. You can feel you are miles from suburban Melbourne.
At the published coordinates (WP1) you should be in front of an information sign featuring a native pollinator. A = The number of bees in the photograph B = The number of Bs in the photo caption (including the photographer).
A very short distance away is WP2 where you will find an sign featuring one of the local bird species. C = The number of animals attracted to the creek, D = The number of birds that can be heard in this area.
Walk along the creek past the playground to WP3 where you will find a large post with two information boards on it. Along this section of path community volunteers have planted many native plants during the annual National Tree Day activities. E = The total number of birds pictured in the photos F = The number of photos featuring yellow flowers.
Continue once more along the path to WP4 where you will find a large information sign. G = The number of Tawny Frogmouths pictured, HJKL = The year in which the South Surrey Park group was formed.
Now for some simple maths to calculate the coordinates of GZ a short walk away:
S37 4J.(K-A)(CxD)H
E145 0E.(F+G+H)(J-K)B
Please stay on the paths until close to GZ - there is no need for any "bush-bashing"!
Please be stealthy and return the cache carefully to its hiding place. I hope you enjoyed walking around this park as much as I do.
