Geocache Description:

Historic Galena Stroll with Civil War Major General John E. Smith

Gather at the Fountain

Saturday Aug 26, 2017

10 a.m. till noon

Come join us for a Historic Stroll around Downtown Galena. General John E. Smith and Aimee will be the hosts. The background picture for this page is us in this year's 4th of July parade in Galena.

The event will begin with a half hour meet and greet at the listed coordinates, followed by about a one hour stroll. The Stroll is optional. When we return to the park everyone is welcome to hang around.

This event is a gathering of geocachers, facilitating the social aspect of geocaching. It is organized by geocachers and is open to other geocachers and those interested in learning about the game. It is an opportunity for geocachers to meet other geocachers in a charming setting. Seasoned cachers can catch up with each other; and new cachers will get to meet and make new caching connections.

As a learning experience we will walk past several different types of caches. New cachers will be able to become familiar with a few types of unique hides and containers.

This event is scheduled so everyone will have plenty of time to find caches before and after. If you know you will be late, please contact me and you can catch up to the Stroll. If you only have time for part of the stroll, that is fine too. Anyone attending any part of this event may log the event.

Hope you can make it and that the weather is cool. That wool uniform is hot. It is not a costume. It is a reproduction made this spring to 1861 specifications.
