Quarry View Traditional Cache
Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions
in our disclaimer.
The cache is situated in Pioneer Park with views over Cootamundra on the northern side of the hill and the quarry on the southern side. Motor vehicles cannot enter the park but there are no restrictions on walkers or mountain bikers. There are no toilet or water facilities available. There are two entrances. The main one is off the Back Brawlin Road with a large parking area with a small gate for bikes and pedestrians. The other is off the Olympic Way about 50 metres past the railway overhead bridge. There is space for a couple of vehicles near a small gate into the park. Care must be taken both in entering and exiting the entrance owing to the traffic in both directions, coming down the hill and up from the overhead bridge. There are tracks leading from both entrances to the immediate vicinity of the cache which is situated a couple of metres off a track and should be easy to locate once the seeker is in the vicinity. The trick is in getting there via the numerous tracks. A direct approach is unrealistic owing to the nature of the terrain. ;There are some steep sections and in places it will be slippery if wet. A reasonable degree of fitness is required. Unless you are on a mountain bike allow at least 45 minutes or more to locate the cache and return. Do not disturb the wild life that you may encounter. Grey kangaroos and black wallabies can usually be sighted if you are reasonably quiet. They frequently stop to look you over before taking off. You could also encounter blue tongue lizards and echidnas. In hotter months obviously there could be snakes but they usually sense your approach and disappear before you see one. If you do confront a snake stop moving and wait for it to move away. The cache is a small sistema container with room for a few small swaps. Have fun getting there and enjoy the views.
