Cote Street was one of the old coaching routes in the area.
In August 1940 a German Luftwaffe Heinkel 111 Bomber was shot down and crashed near the top of Cote Street where it meets Honeysuckle Lane. It attracted a large crowd, many of whom took a bit of perspex or metal work as a souvenir. The aircraft is the cover picture of Worthing At War.
The area must be a magnet to planes because in the mid 60's a light aircraft had a forced landing in the field at the top of Cote Street scattering the cattle. The pilot who was fine stayed with the plane to scare off the cows who he felt may have eaten his aircraft. Must have been made of something tasty!

This route leads up to the South Downs and with just one road to cross will take you all the way to Storrington and beyond.
If not already done so there are quite a number of caches you could also look for whilst in the area.
