Cache is not on the bridge or in the water. Please do not disturb any of the rock foundation either. No parking along this road; use the state park (fees apply - $5 DE plates, $10 0ut-of-state plates).
The Pennington Bridge crosses the Brandywine Creek next to the Rockland Mill Village. The buildings now rehabbed into condos were once the site of various mills. A grist mill was here as early as 1724. It was replaced by a fulling and cotton mill around 1733 and then a paper mill in 1849. The mill village was the home of 200 people in the 1880s. There were as many as 28 houses, 2 churches, a hotel and a post office.
Cache is a small container with camo tape. No credit for a find if you don't sign the log. We hope you enjoy traveling the back roads of northern New Castle County - rich in history, culture and mansions.
