Geocache Description:

Cache is not on the bridge or in the water. Please do not disturb any of the rock foundation either. No parking along this road; use the state park (fees apply).

The Pennington Bridge crosses the Brandywine Creek next to the Rockland Mill Village. The buildings now rehabbed into condos were once the site of various mills. A grist mill was here as early as 1724. It was replaced by a fulling and cotton mill around 1733 and then a paper mill in 1849. The mill village was the home of 200 people in the 1880s. There were as many as 28 houses, 2 churches, a hotel and a post office.

Cache is a small container with camo tape. No credit for a find if you don't sign the log. We hope you enjoy traveling the back roads of northern New Castle County - rich in history, culture and mansions.
