Geocache Description:

[ENG] This memorial is situated in 1966 in honour of Hiiumaa defenders, who participated in II WW. The author is Endel Taniloo, architect Ülo Sirp. The sculpture weighs 46 tons. The folk know it by the name Kivi-Jüri (Stone-Jüri).

[EST] Mälestusmärk püstitati 1966. aastal Teises maailmasõjas osalenud Hiiumaa kaitsjate auks. Mälestusmärgi autor on skulptor Endel Taniloo, arhitekt Ülo Sirp. Tänase päevani on tegemist suurima graniitbüstiga Eesti Vabariigi territooriumil. Kokku kaalub skulptuur 46 tonni, millest alus mõõtmetega 2,6 x 2 x 1,7 meetrit, kaalub 36 - ja sellele toetuv pea 10 tonni. Üldkõrgus 4,3 m. Mälestusmärk on muinsuskaitse all alates 1997 aastast. Rahvakeeles tuntakse monumenti ka „Kivi Jüri" nime all.
