100 years ago the first 4-H club was formed in Olds. It was a swine club started through the extension program at Olds College. 24 members participated that first year learning how to improve the quality of the animals that farms in the area were growing. The following year there were 12 clubs in the province with 255 members. This was the start of an organization that engaged youth and created future industry leaders. Today 4-H has over 330 clubs and 5400 members.
In 1967 4-H turned 50 and was celebrated with the unveiling of a commemorative cairn at Olds College. It was rededicated for the 75th anniversary in 1992 and will be again in 2017 for the 100th anniversary.
This cache takes you to the cairn at Olds College. It was tricky to hide so you will have to look carefully.
