Geocache Description:

Open 8AM – 10PM.  As with most Carlsbad parks no dogs are allowed.

Dating back to the 70s it was originally known as “Larwin Park” and in 2003 it was to have been developed into a 22 acre sports park including ball fields and other facilities. It was sized down to 3.5 acres due to complaints from nearby homeowners and because much of the surrounding area was found to be home to the endangered California Gnatcatcher.

While no dogs are allowed in this park a trail built by volunteers extends south to a fenced, off-leash dog park on Carlsbad Village Drive. When it was developed the city surveyed citizens as to what to change the name to and some local elementary schoolchildren came up with “Rover Park" and "Dogville Park" in reference to the nearby dog park before “Hidden Canyon Community Park” was finally settled upon.
