The challenge is getting here the cache should be easy to find. Looking for a nalgene bottle under a rock
This cache is at the top of Scotchman's Peak. The views are incredible but be prepared for a long hike. BonnieK and I have been wanting to do this hike for many years, everytime we plan for it something happens to cancel the trip.
Two years ago the trail was closed due to a panhandling mountain goat.
Last year it was forest fires that closed the trail.
This year we were determined. I was always surprised that there wasn't a suitable geocache reward at the peak. So along with plenty of water and snacks I included a geo hide for the summit.
Be prepared for a difficult hike. The summit is at 7015 ft. The trail climbs 3800 feet over the course of about 3 miles. The trail is steep filled with roots and scree (loose rock) The trail is dry and after you break out of the tree line the sun can be relentless. Please bring lots of water. The trip can be ruthless if you run short !
