About the cache
This cache is located at the donation box set up by the Kyle United Methodist Church. Please be respectful! This should be a fairly easy find. Make sure you close and replace the container well!
Some local history
This cache is hidden in the Downtown Kyle area which has many buildings dating back to the founding of Kyle in 1880. Kyle was founded during the construction of the International & Great Northern Railroad which was given 200 acres of land by Fergus Kyle (whom the town is now named after). An auction was held under the Kyle Auction Oak (which you can find at 204 S Sledge St) on October 14, 1880, where nearly all the lots were sold. Many of the buildings in the area were constructed shortly after that time by various people who purchased lots. (Info from the Texas Historical Commission)
The posted coordinates take you to the Kyle United Methodist Church which was established in 1880 by John Wesley, very likely after the auction in October that same year. At the posted coordinates, you can find a donation box set up to provide food to anyone who needs it. (Read More)
On the other side of the Methodist Church from the posted coordinates is the Kyle First Baptist Church which was established in 1872 as the Mountain City Baptist Church. While Kyle was forming, the Baptist Church purchased a lot in the 1880 auction and the church building was built in 1881. To accommodate for a bigger membership, the building was torn down and rebuilt in 1932, but later burned down in 1940. The building was rebuilt in 1948, and an additional property across the street was purchased in 1983. (Read More)
Just down the street from the cache is Kyle Elementary School. The school opened in 1939 as the Kyle Independent School District, was renamed to Kyle High School, and then renamed again to Kyle Elementary School when it joined the Hays Consolidated Independent School District. The mascot of the school is the Panthers and their colors are black and gold. (Read More)
