Geocache Description:

Standard blue-top peanutbutter jar

Cache is located in the ruins of the boilerhouse for the Baltic mine #3 and 4 shafts.  The 3 and 4 shafts both used this plant to supply steam for their hoists and heating.  From the size of the building (and that it supplied two mines) there was likely at least 2 boilers in here.  The foundation to the SW of chimney base was the compressor building for the two mines (mine drills were air powerred).  The hole in the NE wall of the boilerhouse was likely the outlet for the steam line running to the #4 hoist and then on to the shafthouse.  The #4 hoisthouse can be found to the NE, at the edge of the clearing, with the concrete steam tunnel leading past it to the ruins of the shafthouse.  At the NW corner of the compressor house, the steam tunnel can also be found, running across the road to the #3 hoist and then on to the #3 shaft (with a tee off to the oilhouse).

A few other buildings of note.  North of the oilhouse was the transformer building.  Power for the mine was generated at the Baltic stampmill in Redridge, and the transformer building reduced the transmission voltage to a useable level.  Across the road are two buildings (still used) the smaller one to the south was the carpenter shop and the larger one was the blacksmith and machine shop.
