• Fencing Facts:
• The origin of modern fencing is believed to be Spain. One of the oldest books on fencing was Treatise on Arms, written by Diego de Valera of Spain between 1458 and 1471.
• The first regularized fencing competition was held in 1880.
• Fencing first became part of the Olympic Games in the 1896 Summer Olympics.
• Kevlar was added to top level uniform pieces following the death of Vladimir Smirnov at the 1982 World Championships in Rome.
• The three main weapons used in the sport: the foil, épée, and sabre, but today you will be using a GPS.
• The perfect place for fencing... a Sport Park of course!
