Geocache Description:

NOTE: The 'keep off the grass' sign at the Village Hall refers to cars and parking. You are fine to walk around on the grass!

This cache is part of a series of caches which are placed at or near village halls and community centres. This is a series which other cachers can add to and expand into other geographical areas. See the bookmark list for all the caches in the series. This is my second cache, which I have placed to celebrate my 200th geocache found! It is also my first multi-cache.

There is a National Trust car park in Keepers Lane, which is a small road to the side of the village hall. I recommend parking here, as although parking is occasionally available inside the grounds, the large gate may be locked at any time, without warning.

From the Trust car park, it is a very short walk back down the road and through the green, metal side gate into the village hall grounds. There is also walking access from the main road (B3084) to the village hall via a small wooden gate at the front of the building. Co-ordinates for both gates, and for the car park, can be found in the waypoint section, if needed.

Please be advised that the hall is occasionally hired out to members of the public for parties, weddings, etc., so this cache may not always be available.

You are looking for a small tupperware container. To find the actual cache co-ordinates, you will need to search the grounds of the hall for five memorial plaques, each containing numbers, in the form of dates. The given co-ordinates will lead you to one of these five plaques, and the other four will be relatively close by! The plaques are all of either family friends, or actual family, so please be respectful. All of the plaques are outside the building, there is no need to go inside the hall itself.

History of Mottisfont Village Hall:

"Originally the school serving the locality, the building was renovated in the early 90s and turned into a fully functioning Village Hall. The hall was built over 100 years ago and enjoys fine views over the Dun valley from its prominent position on Keepers Lane. Many children attended the school over the years, and photographs through the ages adorn the walls inside the hall. Many who attended still live locally.

The wooden outbuilding has recently been renovated, and this provides storage for gazebos, outdoor tables and the like. It was originally the village scout hut and was positioned in Mottisfont, and after being used as the home guard HQ during WW2 it was moved to the school and turned into a kitchen/dining area."

This cache has been placed with kind permission of the National Trust and the Mottisfont Village Hall Committee. If you would like to expand the Village Hall Series by placing a cache of your own please do so, but please contact GeoJaxx first to request a number and to add the cache to the bookmark list.
