Geocache Description:

This cache forms part of the epic Gordon’s Bay Geo-Art Anchor walking trail.

This trail overlooks the spectacular Steenbras dam, on which the geo-art anchor is laid out.

The Steenbras dam ("STEE-un bruss") is an earth-fill type dam located in the Hottentots-Holland Mountains. For much of the first half of the twentieth century it was the main reservoir for Cape Town but is now only one of many dams that supply the city.

The dam is on the Steenbras River, which, in common with most rivers in the Western Cape, has a low sediment load and delivers water of very high quality. The river and dam are named after the steenbras, a fish endemic to South Africa.

The walking trail is about 6km long, from the trailhead to the final cache, so be prepared, and enjoy the view.

Note: Unauthorised access is prohibited for cars.

This cache is NOT at the coordinates listed. It is a mystery cache, which means you have to find out some information to help you determine where the true co-ordinates are.

Below is a question that you have to correctly answer. You can then use the coordinates next to the correct answer to “update coordinates” on the cache page. This will lead you to the final destination cache. Once you have found the cache and logged it, the smileys will appear to form the geo-art of the anchor on your map.

#13 Question: The heavy pointed ends at the base of the anchor that hook on to rocks on the seabed are called …?

Answer 1: “Flukes” - then coordinates are S 34° 9.807 E 018° 53.765

Answer 2: “Points” - then coordinates are S 34° 11.051 E 018° 51.209

If your answer gives coordinates that look wrong, then they probably are, as the caches are located along a walking trail, and not in water!
