Geocache Description:

This is an Earthcache in the middle of a very nice and quiet park with a creek running through. Depending on which way you take to the cache, the terrain rating will differ. Care should be taken while walking or riding a bike as the creek runs right along the path. During the rainy season, the creek isn't passable and the path is muddy. Use caution!

Poison Oak is known to be in the area. There is none by the cache site, however. Use caution regardless.

Please be respectful of the area and it's residents, big or small!

Please observe all Parks rules and regulations. The parks close at sundown! Please do NOT attempt this EarthCache at night! Observations are best done during the day when optimal lighting is available.

For this EarthCache, we will be observing a ford. The stream that contains this ford should cross the path as you walk along the creek side. The small stream has a cutoff tree stump on its bank.

Ford

A ford is a shallow place with good footing where a river or stream may be crossed by wading, or inside a vehicle getting its wheels wet. A ford is mostly a natural phenomenon, in contrast to a low water crossing, which is an artificial bridge that allows crossing a river or stream when water is low. A ford is a much cheaper form of river crossing than a bridge, due to the fact that they naturally occur, but it may become impassable after heavy rain or during flood conditions. A ford is therefore normally only suitable for very minor roads (and for paths intended for walkers and horse riders etc.)

Sometimes stream beds aren't strong enough due to the material that composes them, for people or vehicles of any size to pass. Anything that attempts to cross fords of this nature runs the risk of getting stuck in the mud or between rocks.

LOGGING REQUIREMENTS:

Please answer the following questions, to your best ability, using the information above. When you feel you have them answered correctly, send me your answers via the Geocaching websites messaging feature, or through email. Any "Found It" logs without the requirements being sent in, will be deleted.

Please include the GC code of this cache and the number of people in your party in your message.

The small stream that contains the ford should cross the path. The stream has a cutoff tree stump on its bank. This stream is NOT the main branch of the creek.

1) Is water flowing through the small stream? If so, how deep is it?

2) Can you cross this stream without getting wet (assuming water is flowing), or would you have to wade through the water?

3) How wide is this small stream?

4) This is NOT a requirement!!
Pictures are no longer allowed to be used as a logging requirement for EarthCaches, however, I highly encourage them, especially in an area as beautiful and interesting as this, but also because they help determine the validity of logs. If you feel like it, snap a few! (No spoilers! Pictures containing spoilers WILL be deleted!)

I hope you enjoyed this EarthCache and most of all, I hope you learned something new!
